Khutbah Jumaat : “Pecutan Terakhir Ramadhan”

Petikan Khutbah Jumaat 08 Jun 2018M / 23 Ramadhan 1439H: JAIS

“Pecutan Terakhir Ramadhan”.

(Riwayat al-Bukhari).

Friday Sermon Text: A Most Beautiful Night Full Of Blessings

Friday Sermon Text: 8 June 2018AD / 23 Ramadan 1439H. JAWI

A Most Beautiful Night Full Of Blessings

Allah SWT created various periods of time that are priceless. For example, Friday is more valuable than any other day, Ramadan is a month more valuable than any other month, and Lailatul Qadar is a really special night when compared to any other night.

This privilege is specifically stated by Allah SWT in Surah Al-Qadr:“Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”

What is so extraordinary about Lailatul Qadar that it is mentioned in the AlQuran and is eagerly awaited by the Righteous ones?

First: Lailatul Qadar was when the greatest Book by Allah SWT was revealed. Ibn Abbas said: "Allah SWT sent down the Al-Qur'an as a complete whole from Lauhul Mahfuzh to Baitul 'Izzah which is situated in the heavens above the earth. Then, Allah SWT sent down the Al-Qur'an to Rasulullah SAW separately in accordance with the events that occurred over 23 years."

Second: Lailatul Qadar is better than a thousand months. Mujahid and Qatadah opined that what is meant by better than a thousand months is that the acts of worship and practices during Lailatul Qadar are better than the acts of worship and practices of a thousand months when there is no Lailatul Qadar. This is the time where rewards are extraordinarily multiplied.

Third: Lailatul Qadar is a night full of blessings, as mentioned in Surah AdDukhan, verse 3:“Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].”

Barakah means something that is abundant or overflowing. It can be understood as blessings, rewards, graces or the like, bestowed on that night.

Fourth: Angels descent on the Night of Al-Qadar. The Al-Quran records this amazing event through Surah Al-Qadr. The Angels meant by this verse are angels of mercy. It denotes the many blessings and graces that descend during Lailatul Qadar. The situation is similar to the descent of the angels to those who are reading the Al-Quran and to those who are involved in zikir and knowledgesharing events. And, Ar-Ruh is meant to be the Angel Jibril AS. They organise all affairs determined by Allah SWT which relates to death, sustenance and so on.

Fifth: Prosperity until dawn. Prosperity here means that we are guarded from the evil of Syaitan on that night. There is no evil on the night of Al-Qadar until dawn.

Lailatul Qadar is a night full of goodness not available on any other nights. Whoever is prevented from taking advantage of the night, it is unfortunate for him because it is a hindrance for him from receiving a lot of good.

Keep the night alive with faith and with expectations of receiving rewards from the Almighty, as recorded in Sahih Bukhari and narrated by Abu Hurairah RA, where Rasulullah SAW was reported to have said: “Whoever establishes prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not to show off), then all his past sins will be forgiven.”

In addition, a special supplication recommended to be recited was recorded by Imam al-Tirmizi and narrated by Saidatina Aisyah RA, in which she was reported to have said: "O, Messenger of Allah, what is your advice if I meet Lailatul Qadar, what should I recite?" Rasulullah SAW replied, "Say: "O Allah, verily You have pardoned and be pardoned, therefore pardon my iniquity.”

Let us try to catch the Lailatul Qadar during the last ten nights of Ramadan, as the hadith recorded by Al-Bukhari, and narrated by Aisyah RA, Rasulullah SAW was reported to have said: “Then seek lailatul qadar seriously on odd nights from the last ten nights of Ramadhan."

To end the sermon today, the mimbar would like to summarise the following, which needs to be emphasized.

First: Lailatul Qadar is a special night full of blessings. Do not squander our opportunity with Lailatul Qadar by being negligent, especially by sinning.

Second: Muslims must emulate the seriousness of Rasulullah SAW in pursuing Lailatul Qadar through diligence in worship and mobilizing family members to worship together.

Third: Enliven Lailatul Qadar by spending time in mosques for I’tiqaf, performing supplementary prayers, zikrullah, munajat, being repentant, and so on. Rest assured that the rewards obtained that night shall be very huge indeed.

Reflect on the declaration of Allah SWT in Surah An-Nahl, verse 97: “Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward [in the Hereafter] according to the best of what they used to do.”
